After what seemed like a few long weeks in cold Canada & great catch up with family & friends we were back in Buenos Aires, and back staying in the neighbourhood we had enjoyed – Palermo Soho. Before we left last time we found ourselves a nice small hostel called BA Soho rooms to stay in. The place was small with only 3 rooms, a nice common area & the owner was very helpful with lots of information about what to do in the area including great restaurant recommendations.
It was a pretty slow 4 days before heading over to Uruguay. We relaxed at the local Starbucks so I could get my fix, ate in some great restaurants & only ventured out of Palermo Soho to go for steak in Palermo Hollywood at a NYT recommended restaurant & to Recoleta cemetery. There are just so many great shops & restaurants in Palermo Soho- you don’t need to leave for anything!
The Recoleta cemetery is one of the main attractions in BA. There are hundreds of tourists there each day & tombs from many well known people in Argentinean history including Evita – or Eva Peron. This is one of the most popular tombs in the cemetery due in part to the number of tourists who know her story. The cemetery was nice & peaceful and felt as though it wasn’t even in the city. It was hot & we were getting acclimatized & used to being back on the ‘road’. That’s our story & we’re sticking to it!
Buenos is great and overall a safe city to visit with an easy to navigate transit system and you can easily get ‘stuck’ in some of the neighbourhoods living like a portino.
The only thing I wanted to see, that we didn’t get a chance to, was some live Tango. Oh well – I’ll just watch more of SYTYCD when we’re back home.
