Ritz is one of those rare hotels where extraordinary service is not over cumbersome. The staff are genuinely friendly, polite and very helpful. Everyone goes out of their way to make your stay relaxing and pleasant, and they do it in a “not-in-your-face”way.
The hotel has great indoor and outdoor amenities. The beach front is very well maintained, and it is serviced. The staff will setup your lounger, bring you towels, drinks, food, and anything else you might need. You will find similar service at the pool and if you are traveling with babies or young kids you will be offered complimentary life vests, waterproof diapers, extra shade, pack-and-plays, and floats.
If you prefer active pastime, the water sports crew will offer you snorkels, fins, standup paddle boards, sail boats and more - again, everything is complimentary for the guests.
Foodies will not be disappointed with menu selection and quality at the Ritz. The restaurants serve some fantastic dishes and they cater very well for those with special dietary needs.
I won't go into detail about each of the restaurants, it's a personal preference, but my wife and I absolutely loved Bar Jack for its comfort food, sunsets and of course the crab-cake burger. Served with guacamole and signature coleslaw it is a killer dish, especially if you order crispy sweet-potato fries with it.
All other options, including In Room Dining, serve delicious and creative dishes, and really are a joy to explore. The prices can be steep, especially the sushi, but you are paying for quality dinning and it is comparably priced to say NYC or London.
One thing you have to keep in mind is that all the prices quoted are in Cayman dollars. Meaning that when you get your bill in US dollars the prices will be at least 20% higher, or whatever the exchange rate is. Then on top of that you will pay a mandatory 15% service charge and will be given an option to add tip as well. So don't be surprised when checking the bill, it is not a mistake.
Last bit of info, the buffet breakfast is fantastic! I recommend getting it included because you will end up paying more for the A La Carte breakfast and the selection is not much better than the buffet. Recommendation from my wife - for breakfast, try the Pink Grapefruit Brulèfrom the a la carte menu.
The Afternoon Tea
One word - elegance.
Afternoon tea is a ritual. Some take it seriously, others do not, but it is hard not to appreciate the care with which afternoon tea is served at the Ritz.
Selection of teas is great and the teas are delicious and special. Even such staples as English Breakfast and Earl Grey have a twist to them.
There are two tea options, both come with selection of artisan sandwiches, cakes and scones. All are beautifully crafted and presented. The tea is served in top quality china, which adds to the experience.
If you are staying at the hotel, I highly recommend getting the tea. Whether you're into teas or not you will enjoy the experience.
To Sum It Up
We loved our stay at The Ritz and although usually we don't visit the same hotel twice, we might make an exception for this one. It has a lot to offer and there is not much bad to be said about it. Honestly, it is very hard to fault. So I give it top scores, especially for the wonderful and friendly staff.
